Ancient Kingdoms of Ljós

Teilatua

Elven city in mountains of Fjall, a realm of Ljós

Descriptions from the book:

“Behind them the balcony stands astride the waterfall at the south of a ring-shaped valley in the midst of a large mountain range, with a northern waterfall across that valley and the city itself built in a ring around the inner edge of the upper reaches of the surrounding mountains that form the valley. Snow-capped peaks are in the background, behind the city.”

“As they began their final approach into the city of Teilatua itself, however, it was a breathtaking sight. Unlike Lán Léargas that had a large, consolidated city that was built into the mountainside from the valley floor, Teilatua was an entire ring of buildings all around the valley that was built on top of the mountains. The valley floor was a verdant plain of grasses, flowers, small trees and a meandering river.   The city was an elegant blend of carefully crafted white columns and balustrades set against the hand-carved grey granite of the mountains.  The city was poised like a rooftop above the valley floor. There were two waterfalls entering the valley, one to the north and one to the south. And there were two large open structures with their own peaks that rose above everything else in the valley and the city.  One structure to the east was where the people of Teilatua celebrated the elemental power of Air. This was also where they invoked that elemental power when needed. The other large structure to the west was where the special warriors that rode the giant war-hawks were based. As they watched from the valley floor, they could see one of these majestic birds gliding in for a landing. The late-afternoon sun highlighted the warrior on the back of the war-hawk with its outstretched wings.”

Garmoniya

Elven city in forests of Skógur, another realm of Ljós

Descriptions from the book:

“The four companions turned around. Behind them the forest stretches into the distance. It is a vast forest, and the trees are very large. There is a spectacular elven city built into the trees.”

Description from the book:

“The path that they had been traveling on widened as it entered the elven city of Garmoniya. The two travelers from Terra stood and stared. The city was completely integrated into the majestic tree that surrounded them. Buildings that were in the treetops themselves as well as archways and stairways that ran between the trees and up into the trees. It was a multi-level city of wood, rope and stone that rivaled the city of Teilatua in size and scale. There was something intrinsically warmer about the look and feel of Garmoniya, though. Maybe it was the wood construction or the leafy green tree branches that were integrated into every part of the city.

“It reminds me of my woodland home in Terra,” said Alantir. “But on a much grander scale.”

There was some activity, but it was relaxed. They could see a few elves here and there going about their daily activities, but there was not the same large population rushing about as they had seen in Teliatua.

Vaelwyn led them through the city until they reached the location of King Mandáron’s hall. The stairway that led from the forest floor up to the king’s hall was in the form of a wide spiral that wound around the outside of a very large tree at the far western end of the city. The stairway wound upwards higher and higher. Just when Bedwyr thought that they could not get any higher, they reached the landing outside of King Mandáron’s hall.

This was a uniquely impressive hall. It was built on suspended supports between two of the largest trees in Garmoniya and was open along both of the long sides. One side opened back to the east and looked over the treetop city of Garmoniya. The other side opened to the west and looked through a thin scattering of trees and out to the coastline and the western sea.”

White Henge

Elven version of Stonehenge in center of Ljós with giant white stones

Description from the book:

“The companions stood in front of the White Henge, having stepped out through a magical doorway that was formed while they were inside. The characters are in the foreground, the doorway is in the middle ground, with an ornate framework conjured of silver light, with elven runes on the top and sides of the portal. The White Henge is in the background, the large white stones illuminated by a full moon and flickering torchlight.”

Description from the book:

“Taorlyn began the ceremony by entering the towering ring of roughly hewn white stones from the east. The full moon added to the illuminating glow of the twelve white stones. And there was flickering orange-hued light from the flames of torches planted between some of the stones.

Taorlyn proceeded around the large round white stone at the center of the White Henge.

Caedwyn was still in the center of the circle and surrounded by the other Wardens. He raised his rune staff again and uttered another arcane phrase. He pointed his rune staff at the empty northwest point within the circle. He started at the ground to the left, spoke a brief command, and started to raise the tip of his rune staff. A line of silver light was traced in the air as Caedwyn manipulated his rune staff. When he was done, there was a doorway outlined in silver light standing in the northwest point within the White Henge.”
