Light and Shadow of the Fae
9-volume Portal Fantasy/Historical Fantasy series
This portal fantasy series transports readers from a fictional version of Earth (“Terra”) circa 850 CE to the Fae realm of Ljós. This realm is home to the Álfur, an ancient race of elves who follow the path of Light. Ljós is also home to the Breacadh an Lae, or “Dawn Kin”, giant warriors that have been allied with the Álfur since the earliest days of creation—long before mortal humans came into existence. Some of the Álfur have varying degrees of magical ability, and the most elite magic-wielders are part of a mysterious group known as the Adepti. The Adepti are universally respected, and feared, and none more so than their twelve most powerful, known as Prime Adepti.
There is also a separate Fae realm named Myrkur, where the Dark Fae follow Shadow versus Light. Eons ago, the Prime Adepti undertook an extraordinary conjuring to separate the three realms. This was done to protect Terra from the evil influence of Myrkur’s Dark Fae. This separation of the realms was known as the Great Sundering, and it was accomplished with the use of powerful Elemental Seals. Now, however, these Seals are weakening and magic is returning to Terra—along with the evil influence of the Dark Fae.
The first three books are set in a fictional version of the British Isles circa 850 CE. These first three books follow Bedwyr; a young Briton warrior consumed with blood lust to avenge his family’s slaughter by invading Saxons. Bedwyr is brought to the Fae realm where he joins several new companions in a race against time to thwart the Dark Fae from enslaving all realms. In a further twist, Bedwyr is confirmed as a Champion of Light and is imbued with magical powers. His three companions in this Quest include Emrhys, a troubled prince from the Breacadh an Lae, a tribe of giant warriors; Alantir, a skilled archer and young woodland elf who has also lost her family to tragedy wrought by the Dark Fae; and Vaelwyn, one of the few Prime Adepti of the Álfur. She is recognized as the most powerful magic wielder the Álfur seen in eons.
Within the White Henge at the center of Ljós, Vaelwyn performs an ancient ritual that awakens the latent magical powers within Bedwyr and Alantir and activates their enchanted amulets. When they return to Terra to complete a second ritual at dawn on the winter solstice, Dark Fae are waiting for them, seeking to thwart their efforts. If the four companions successfully complete their winter solstice ritual they will halt the spread of Shadow. If they fail, however, the grasp of Shadow will tighten and ancient evil will return to ravage all realms.
The second three books in this series are set in Morocco, North America, and South America. Many of the characters from the first three books continue their struggle against the Dark Fae and are joined by a new cast of characters.
The final three books in the series are set in Japan, Cambodia, and India. Compelling new characters join the companions from the earlier books as they meet the challenge of the Dark Fae and seek to restore the complete separation of the realms.
